| Summary: | A project named "EC TIMBER" aims to create professional software for the design and checking of timber structures. European structural codes are developing fast, and these require software support, which is regarded as an opportunity. Timber is environmentally benign, and its efficient utilisation is vital to European economies. Timber characteristics, and those of important wood-based structural products are outlined. Eurocodes I and 5 are discussed. The main features of the software are described, its motivation being to facilitate the use of timber in construction. Future plans are outlined. |
