| Summary: | This paper discusses conceptual design from the perspective of U.S. architectural practice. During the previous twenty years of computer-aided architectural design, the underlying paradigm has mimicked a paper-based technology. As a result, the computer has not significant- ly impacted conceptual design approaches. The future of design, however, is proposed to be in building modeling. A short review of building modeling is provided. Some prospects for conceptual design, based on building modeling and new technologies, are proposed |
