Paper title: Networking construction: electronic integration of distributed information
Authors: Newton B W , Wilson B G , Crawford J R, Tucker S N
Summary: Construction in all advanced industrial societies is fragmented. On asingle project, a variety of design technologies reside within different AECfirms which are frequently dispersed geographically (increasinglyinternational). Coordination during design and construction can be enhancedvia electronic networking among the various AEC firms and the ProjectManager. This paper describes a prototype CAD Conferenchg systm jointlydeveloped by CSIRO and Telecom Research Laboratories capable ofoperating on high_speed wide area networks linking heterogeneous CADplatform (hardware, software, networks). The paper highlights the technicalas well as management issues to be resolved and the costs and benefits ofCAD conferencing versus traditional methods of operation.
