Paper title: Wan opportunities for distributed construction information
Authors: Vanier D J, Turk Z
Summary: The electronic distribution of construction documents such as building codes andstandards, product information, technical literature, and research papers usingmagnetic and optical media is fast becoming commonplace. Wide Area Networks(WAN) and most notably the Internet can provide new opportunities for thedistribution of construction information. Generally, this technology is maturingrapidly and access to the Internet is now widely available. As a result, it is nowpossible to provide new services for the distribution of construction information toresearchers, architects, engineers and builders. In the paper we describe theunderlying technology and review the opportunities for its employment in researchand practice in the construction industry.
