Paper title: Standardisation in the building industrythe step building construction core model

Summary: A brief summary of IS0 efforts leading to the buildings-related Standards committees is given,together with the scopes of the main related national and international work. The concept of theArchitecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Building Core Model (a high level data modeldealing with the main entities of relevance across the appropriate sector of industry) will bepresented and illustrated by examples drawn from the version which is current at the time of theworkshop. A comparison of different approaches adopted by various European Union projects isgiven and the role of de-facto standards is discussed.
