Paper title: Computer software architecture to support automated building diagnostics
Authors: Chassin D P
Summary: Developed by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Building SciencesGroup, Honeywell Technology Center, and the University of Colorado JointCenter for Energy Management with support from the U.S. Department ofEnergy, the Whole Building Diagnostician is a Windows-based applicationthat provides building operators with easy access to system diagnosticinformation. The architecture of the software infrastructure presentedprovides essential data collection, validation, integration, analysis, andmanagement functions for the large sets of discontinuous asynchronoustime-series data used by all the modules in the application. The proposedarchitecture uses a central database to store both the data and the diagnosticresults from the various modules. Although the use of a centralizeddatabase has many advantages, it has several shortcomings. This paper willdiscuss the advantages and shortcomings of such an approach whendeployed on a large scale.
